Free Home for the Digital Media
Digital media is everywhere to be found. From mobile phones to game consoles to mp3 players, these digital media have crept to people’s daily lives to further prove the emergence of the technological era. Nonetheless, digital media have a base that it will be forever held to decode and encode its contents, the computer.
Unfortunately, not all computers do have the software loaded on it to actually decode and encode media contents especially videos. This is where the VideoLan Client (VLC) comes in.
Started and developed in 1996 by students of the École Centrale Paris as an academic project to stream videos with a server and a client for the campus network, it had evolved to be the favorite free open-source software media player all over the world.
The VLC media player is a portable media player that can run on different operating systems through different versions released by collaborations of contributions throughout the world. Its ability to open most media files without the need to download codecs to decode it made it a favorite among patrons of downloaded digital media.
Furthermore, the VLC player allows user to see damaged or incomplete downloaded media. With the use of the FireWire connection, VLC downloads can be streamed live to monitors and high definition televisions. A user can also personalized the player through various VLC skins in the internet.
The developers of the software had released its newest version, the VLC 1.0.5 last January. The latest release, which is primarily aimed for Mac and Windows users; are created with codecs and speed upgrades, fixed potential crashes in scalable vector graphics decoders and more language translation updates.
However, the best thing about the highly-acclaimed player is that it is free. It can be downloaded through various clients in the web allowing people to maximize use of different media formats in their computers.
