Vlc Must Know Facts
What Every Person Must Know About The VLC
When one has access to one of the most widely known and trusted media players throughout the technical world, it might be a bit convincing factor not to believe that such system could have many fatal technicalities. However, one must always keep in mind that despite the many capabilities of the program, there also exists the fact that a media player system such as VLC could have some flaws which when overlooked, could present the user or the network with a multitude of problems.
Originally, the VLC media player was intended as a end program for streaming used in networks in the Ecole Centrale Paris and was developed by a group of students. From its roots, however, one could have at least have a hindsight as to the possibilities that this tool could be of use to people who would want to harm other person’s computer system.
Such concern was put into a better light when Secunia has detected a certain error in the VLC player which could make its users vulnerable to an attacker’s methods. This possibility was alerted among the 0.8.6h version of the tool on Windows and was consequently advised to have the 0.8.6i version be released.
The said flaw is attributed to an integer overflow error which explains as to how the program uses its memory and could be used as a means to make a heap- based buffer overflow. The attacker could also input certain codes like a .AVI or .WAV file in which upon playing, could release the altered codes made by the hacker onto the user’s computer system, an incidence which could trigger the control of computer by the attacker.
Fortunately though, authorities from Secunia advised that until the new update is released and installed, there is no more worry about unsecure files.
