Personalizing Your VLC Media Player with VLC Skins
The VLC media player is very popular for a number of reasons, including the fact that it is free software, can be used with just about any operating system and can read, encode and stream just about every file format. Of course, one of the best additional features is that it can be customized with VLC skins. Although the VLC media player already comes with several skins to choose from, there are an abundant amount of skins available on the internet and you can even design your own with the precise tools.
VLC skins give the media player a whole new look and that makes it not just more visually engaging, but it is a way to express your own taste and style. The skins2 interface of the software allows not only for VLC skins to be used, but it also supports the skins for Winamp 2 and XMMS. The skins for the media player can be downloaded and used on almost every computer, but those using the Mac OS X operating system will not be able to add VLC skins to their media player at the present time.
One way to find VLC skins is to go the software website, which has many that can be downloaded for free. The VLC website has a download section with many skins that you can choose from by looking through all of them and downloading only the ones that you like or you can choose the option that allows you to download all of the VLC skins on the site at once. In addition, there are several forums with skins designed by other users of the media player that you are allowed to freely download.
Designing Your Own VLC Skins
If you have a specific design in mind, then you can always create your own VLC skins. There are programs you can download that give you the necessary tools to create skins of your own and most of these no longer require knowledge of XML programming. One such program is known as the Skin Editor and it can be downloaded directly from the VLC media player website.
With the Skin Editor, or any other skin designing program, you can create any kind of skin you want by adding your own images and changing the fonts to meet your personal style and taste. Using the Skin Editor is simple and easy to use for almost any individual – even novice users – and it’s also available in many different major languages to suit the needs for individuals from all around the globe. When designing your skin, you can change the position and you can preview the skin prior to saving it to make sure you like it. Once you have created a skin, you can then import and export it in the form of VLT files and it can then be used on your own personal VLC media player or uploaded to a website where others can also download your skin.
With so many VLC skins to choose from and with the option of creating your own unique skins, you are sure to never have a cramp in your style. Change your skin with your mood, the weather, new interests, or just because!

The thought of customizing the skin myself sounds like fun, but I’m a bit of a computer novice. Is the program really that user-friendly that even I can use it?

Do you know when skins will be available for the Mac OS X operating system? That’s what I used and I’d love to be able to update mine.

I really like that you can download your own skins to this program. It’s not much to look at normally, so the skins really make a difference.
