This is not only the improvements which have been implemented in the new version, rather miscellaneous bug fixes in multiple modules and audio visualizations on FreeBSD have also been implemented.

The VLC player project started as a student project but has now been transformed to a worldwide project with developers participating from 20 nations. VLC consists of a number of different modules by which you can control the VLC player and how to display the various videos.

This player can be played on multiple OS like Mac OS X, Windows, BeOS, GNU/Linux, FreeBSD and WinCE.

A variety of different skins can be downloaded for the VLC players. 

The GUI version is based on wxWidgets for Windows and Linux. For console users it comes with the ncurses interface. There is a text based remote interface. Separate interfaces are available for telnet and Http

It is also possible to control the VLC player through mouse gestures, configurable hotkeys and infrared controllers.

While downloading incomplete files also can be previewed with the help of a VCD player. Several programs make use of the VCD player, some of which include KCeasy and eMule. VLC used to stand for Video Lan client, now this full form has been deprecated because it can do much more than just that.

The latest version of VLC players does not support rm, rmvb, fraps, midi formats. But can you imagine the first version of VCD players were made by some students at Ecole Centrale Paris.
